Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Accountant for a company with operations across multiple branches.
The successful candidate will oversee accounting functions, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain effective financial controls and support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Analyse revenue, expenses, profitability, cash flow and other financial information.
- Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate and maintained on time.
- Oversee the company's accounting records and financial transactions.
- Review financial records and schedules prepared by the bookkeeping function.
- Prepare monthly and periodic financial statements and management reports.
- Financial Control & Reconciliation:
- Review branch financial reports and identify unusual or inconsistent transactions.
- Monitor financial controls to reduce errors, losses and unauthorised transactions.
- Review bank, cash, sales, purchase, receivable and payable reconciliations.
- Monitor financial transactions across the company's branches.
- Investigate significant discrepancies and ensure appropriate corrective action.
- Inventory & Cost Accounting:
- Support management in analysing the financial implications of bulk purchases and sales.
- Analyse inventory variances and investigate significant discrepancies.
- Review stock movement and inventory reports across branches.
- Monitor the accounting treatment and valuation of inventory.
- Monitor cost of goods sold, gross margins and other relevant financial indicators.
- Accounts Receivable & Payable:
- Review outstanding customer balances and supplier obligations.
- Monitor credit transactions and payment schedules.
- Provide management with updates on significant outstanding balances.
- Ensure proper reconciliation of customer and supplier accounts.
- Oversee customer receivables and supplier payables.
- Tax & Statutory Compliance:
- Support the preparation and filing of applicable tax returns and statutory obligations.
- Ensure accounting practices comply with relevant accounting standards and applicable regulations.
- Maintain appropriate records required for tax and statutory compliance.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, tax consultants or relevant authorities when required.
- Management Support & Financial Analysis:
- Provide management with financial information and analysis to support business decisions.
- Identify financial trends, risks and areas requiring management attention.
- Recommend improvements to accounting processes and financial controls.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow planning.
- Prepare financial schedules and reports as requested by management.
- Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience in a trading and inventory-based business is an advantage.
- Good knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, inventory accounting and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA or equivalent is an advantage.
- Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of inventory and cost accounting.
- Integrity and sound financial judgment.
- Ability to analyse large volumes of transactions and financial data.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
