Associate Professor (Physiology)

The successful candidate will provide academic and intellectual leadership in their discipline, conduct and supervise high-impact research, and contribute to the University's mission of excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching:
• Conduct lectures, tutorials and practical demonstrations. Prepare comprehensive lecture notes, slides and laboratory manuals in line with NUC and MDCN minimum academic standards.
• Teach assigned courses in Medical Physiology for MBBS, BDS and Allied Health Science students.
• Assessment
• Participate in Objective Structured Practical Examinations (OSPE), Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) and MBBS Professional Examinations.
• Set, invigilate, mark and submit Continuous Assessment (CA) and Examination scores for assigned courses within approved timelines.
• Laboratory:
• Ensure laboratory safety, proper handling, calibration and maintenance of equipment and reagents;
• Enforce standard operating procedures and good laboratory practice.
• Supervise and organize practical classes;
• Research:
• Participate actively in departmental journal club, seminars and research meetings;
• Undertake research under mentorship of senior faculty;
• Target at least one (1) publication in a peer-reviewed journal during the probationary period.
• Administration:
• Contribute to accreditation and quality assurance activities.
• Attend departmental, faculty and college meetings;
• Serve as Course Adviser / Assistant Examination Officer when assigned;
• Keep accurate records of student attendance, practicals and assessments;
• Professional:
• Register for a PhD programme within one year of appointment if not already a holder;
• Development Attend workshops, conferences and faculty development programmes;
• Adhere strictly to University academic ethics, examination regulations and MDCN professional code of conduct
• Job Requirement
• Registration with the relevant professional body or bodies in the discipline is required
• Demonstrated evidence of capacity to initiate, develop, and supervise research
• An excellent and verifiable record of scholarly publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals and books
• A minimum of Nine (9) years of post-qualification experience in teaching and research in a university
• A Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in the relevant field from a recognised university is mandatory
• Demonstrated capacity for academic and institutional leadership
• Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students to completion is an advantage
