Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining reliable, secure, scalable, and high-performance backend applications and services.
The successful candidate will work closely with Frontend Developers, DevOps Engineers, Product Managers, UI/UX Designers and other stakeholders to deliver robust digital solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled and results-oriented Backend Developer to join our technology team.
The role requires strong proficiency in backend programming, API development, database management, system integration, application security and cloud technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications, services and APIs.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain established coding standards and development practices.
- Stay current with emerging backend technologies, development frameworks, security practices and industry standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Implement appropriate data protection and application-security practices.
- Develop server-side business logic and ensure efficient application performance.
- Develop scalable and maintainable microservices and backend architectures.
- Conduct unit, integration and automated testing to ensure application reliability.
- Contribute to technical documentation, system architecture decisions and development standards.
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve application bugs, performance issues and production incidents.
- Work with DevOps teams to support application deployment, CI/CD pipelines and production environments.
- Implement authentication, authorization and access-control mechanisms using technologies such as JWT and OAuth2.
- Participate in Agile / Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning and technical discussions.
- Monitor backend applications and identify opportunities for performance, scalability and reliability improvements.
- Support cloud deployment and infrastructure requirements across platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
- Build and maintain secure RESTful APIs and, where applicable, GraphQL APIs.
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party APIs, payment gateways and external systems.
- Design, implement and optimize relational and NoSQL databases.
- Use Git and established version-control workflows for source-code management.
- Write clean, efficient, reusable and well-documented code.
Requirements
- Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree / HND in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Equivalent professional experience and demonstrable technical competence may be considered.
- Relevant professional certifications will be an advantage.
Experience
Demonstrable experience building and deploying production-grade applications.
5–20 years of professional experience in backend development or a related software-engineering role.
Practical experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
Experience using Git and modern software-development workflows.
Experience with cloud platforms, Docker or CI/CD will be an advantage.
Experience developing APIs and integrating third-party services.
