Our client seeks to hire an experienced Business Planning & Commodity Economics Analyst to assess the commercial viability of a proposed groundnut processing venture.
The role will focus on commodity market analysis, groundnut procurement economics, seasonal pricing, inventory management, sourcing strategy, financial modelling, and business planning to support investment and commercial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Commodity Market & Pricing Analysis:
- Analyze groundnut prices, seasonality, harvest cycles, supply-demand trends, and market movements across key producing regions.
- Identify opportunities for value creation through peak-season procurement, inventory carry, off-season processing, and sales.
- Evaluate inventory carry economics, including storage, financing, wastage, shrinkage, and quality deterioration.
- Develop price forecasts, scenario models, and sensitivity analyses.
- Assess market dynamics for groundnut oil, cake, and other by-products.
- Procurement & Supply Chain:
- Map key groundnut-producing regions, sourcing channels, suppliers, and aggregation models.
- Assess raw material availability, quality, logistics, seasonality, and supply risks.
- Develop recommendations for optimal procurement, sourcing, and inventory strategies.
- Financial & Commercial Analysis:
- Develop procurement, pricing, margin, cash flow, and working capital models.
- Evaluate profitability under different commodity price, yield, storage, financing, and inventory scenarios.
- Provide commercial insights to support investment and business decisions.
- Business Planning & Reporting:
- Translate market and commodity analysis into actionable business recommendations.
- Develop key commercial assumptions, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support preparation of business cases, investment memoranda, and management presentations.
- Validate key assumptions around processing yields, capacity, CAPEX, OPEX, and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant
Experience
in commodity analysis/trading, agribusiness, procurement, market intelligence, commercial analysis, or business planning.
Strong
in agricultural commodity market analysis, preferably grains, oilseeds, groundnut, or related commodities.
Strong financial modelling, quantitative analysis, forecasting, and commercial evaluation skills.
Good understanding of commodity pricing, procurement economics, supply chains, and inventory management.
Strong analytical, reporting, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
in Nigeria’s agricultural/commodity market is an advantage.
with commodity trading firms, agribusinesses, FMCG/food processing, procurement organizations, or commodity research firms is preferred.
Knowledge of commodity forecasting and market intelligence is highly desirable.
