The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of comprehensive electrical systems for industrial complexes and administrative building projects.
The incumbent ensures that all electrical installations ranging from power distribution and lighting to backup generators and low-voltage systems comply with rigorous safety standards, electrical codes, and project specifications.
Responsibilities
- Electrical System Design & Review:
- Specify appropriate electrical equipment, switchgears, transformers, cabling, and panel boards in compliance with engineering standards.
- Prepare and review electrical engineering drawings, schematics, load calculations, and layout plans for power distribution, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection systems in industrial and administrative buildings.
- Ensure design alignment with architectural and structural layouts, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Site Installation & Project Supervision:
- Monitor day-to-day electrical installation progress to ensure adherence to approved timelines, drawings, and quality benchmarks.
- Oversee the setup, integration, and testing of primary power supply systems, backup generators, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
- Supervise electrical contractors and technicians during the installation of wiring, conduits, distribution boards, transformers, and electrical fixtures on site.
- Testing, Commissioning, & Maintenance:
- Conduct rigorous pre-commissioning checks, insulation resistance tests, continuity tests, and load balancing across all building circuits.
- Formulate preventive maintenance schedules for electrical infrastructure across head office and site facilities.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical faults, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and implement prompt, safe corrective actions.
- HSE & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure proper earthing, hazard isolation, and the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all electrical works.
- Enforce strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards, electrical safety rules, and statutory building codes (e.g., Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission guidelines and IEE wiring regulations).
- Cross-Functional Coordination & Reporting:
- Participate actively in daily toolbox meetings called by site management to align electrical works with overall project milestones.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of material logs, testing certificates, design adjustments, and progress reports submitted to the General Manager (Technical).
Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree (B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering. Professional registration (e.g., COREN) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years of active electrical engineering experience, with a proven background in managing electrical installations for industrial plants and large-scale administrative buildings.
Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or equivalent).
Strong problem-solving aptitude, high attention to detail, and excellent safety compliance discipline.
In-depth knowledge of building electrical codes, power distribution, panel building, and earthing systems.
