Job Position: Finance & Accounting Manager
Job

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Accounting:
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the organisation.
- Ensure accurate recording, classification, reconciliation, and reporting of all financial transactions.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor income, expenditure, cash flow, assets, liabilities, and financial performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Establish and maintain effective financial controls to safeguard company assets.
- Review general ledger accounts, journals, reconciliations, and financial schedules.
- Ensure timely closure of monthly and annual accounts.
- Microfinance Banking Operations:
- Manage and monitor financial activities associated with Microfinance Bank operations.
- Maintain a strong understanding of MFB accounting processes, products, lending operations, deposits, interest income, provisions, and portfolio-related accounting.
- Monitor loan portfolio accounting and ensure proper recognition of interest, impairment, provisions, and write-offs where applicable.
- Work closely with Credit, Operations, Risk, and Internal Audit teams to ensure proper financial controls.
- Monitor branch and operational financial performance where applicable.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment of MFB transactions and financial instruments.
- Regulatory & Statutory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with applicable Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulatory
Requirements
- relevant to Microfinance Banks.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of required regulatory and financial reports.
- Ensure timely compliance with statutory financial obligations, including applicable tax and other regulatory remittances.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulatory bodies, tax consultants, and other relevant stakeholders when required.
- Keep management informed of relevant changes in accounting, tax, banking, and regulatory requirements.
- Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:
- Develop and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Analyse actual performance against approved budgets and provide explanations for significant variances.
- Provide management with financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Develop financial models and reports to support business planning and growth.
- Monitor cost structures and identify opportunities for improved financial efficiency.
- Treasury & Cash Management:
- Monitor daily cash positions and liquidity requirements.
- Ensure effective management of cash and bank balances.
- Monitor inflows and outflows and ensure adequate liquidity for operational requirements.
- Review bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding or unusual transactions.
- Maintain appropriate controls over payments, transfers, and financial approvals.
- Audit & Internal Controls:
- Coordinate internal and external audit activities relating to the Finance function.
- Ensure audit queries are appropriately addressed and resolved within agreed timelines.
- Strengthen internal financial controls and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Identify financial risks, control weaknesses, irregularities, and potential areas of financial exposure.
- Ensure proper segregation of duties and adherence to approved financial procedures.
- Management Reporting:
- Prepare periodic management accounts and financial performance reports.
- Provide accurate financial information and analysis to the Managing Director and Executive Management.
- Develop relevant financial dashboards and management reports.
- Analyse key financial performance indicators and highlight significant trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Support management in making financially informed business decisions.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Finance and Accounts team.
- Set clear performance expectations and ensure timely delivery of finance activities.
- Review staff performance and provide coaching and professional guidance.
- Promote accuracy, accountability, confidentiality, and ethical conduct within the Finance function.
- Required Qualifications & Professional Certification
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- ICAN qualification is mandatory – candidates must be a Chartered Accountant or possess an appropriate ICAN professional qualification/status.
- MFB certification/training is mandatory, with demonstrable professional knowledge of Microfinance Bank operations and regulatory requirements.
- Relevant professional banking or microfinance certifications will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, taxation, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.

Experience
This position is strictly for candidates with relevant
in the Banking and/or Microfinance Banking sector.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional
in Accounting/Finance within a Microfinance Bank or commercial banking environment.
Previous
in a Finance Manager, Senior Accountant, Head of Accounts, Financial Controller, or similar senior finance position within an MFB/banking institution is highly desirable.
Demonstrable
with MFB financial operations, regulatory reporting, audit, treasury, budgeting, and financial controls.
Candidates whose
is exclusively from non-banking industries without relevant MFB/banking
will not be considered.
Interested candidates should possess strong professional
in Microfinance Banking/Banking, hold the required ICAN qualification/certification and MFB-related certification, and demonstrate a solid understanding of financial management within a regulated financial institution.
