Job Description
- Goldsmine4ril Petroleum & Agro Allied Ltd (Goldsmine Hatchery), based in Ibadan, Oyo State, seeks a highly competent and experienced Hatchery Operations Manager to oversee commercial poultry incubation, hatchery production and day-to-day technical operations.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising hatchability, ensuring the production of quality day-old chicks, supervising hatchery personnel, maintaining operational efficiency and minimising production losses.
- Applicants must possess extensive practical experience in commercial poultry hatchery operations, including the management of modern incubation equipment.
Requirements
- Minimum of OND, HND or B.Sc. in Animal Science, Agriculture, Poultry Science or a related discipline. Candidates with substantial proven commercial hatchery experience may also be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in commercial poultry hatchery operations.
- Thorough knowledge of commercial poultry incubation, temperature and humidity control, ventilation, egg turning and hatchery equipment operation.
- Experience operating and troubleshooting commercial setters and hatchers; familiarity with Indian-manufactured incubators is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of egg handling, candling, hatchability analysis, chick grading and hatchery biosecurity.
- Ability to identify incubation problems, investigate poor hatchability and implement corrective measures.
- Proven ability to supervise production staff and coordinate hatchery operations.
- Good numerical, recordkeeping, reporting and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and respond promptly to operational emergencies.
- Must be willing to reside within the hatchery premises in company-provided accommodation.
- High integrity, discipline and commitment to operational excellence.
Key Accountabilities
Manage daily hatchery operations, incubation schedules and production activities.
Monitor setter and hatcher performance, including temperature, humidity, ventilation and other critical incubation parameters.
Supervise fertile egg receiving, grading, storage, setting, candling, transfer, hatching and chick processing.
Monitor fertility, hatchability, chick quality and production losses, and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, sanitation and hatchery biosecurity.
Coordinate routine equipment inspection, preventive maintenance and prompt reporting of mechanical or electrical faults.
Supervise hatchery attendants, assign duties and maintain staff discipline and productivity.
Maintain accurate daily production, egg inventory, hatchability and chick dispatch records.
Prepare periodic operational reports for management.
Coordinate hatchery production with breeder farm egg supply, customer orders and dispatch schedules.
Ensure effective management of consumables, production resources and operating costs.
