The job purpose is to drive full-stack projects as an Individual Contributor (IC) within the OPCO Apps team, leading the design, development and deployment of scalable, secure and high-performance applications using Python, Node.js/JavaScript, Flutter and modern cloud-native technologies.
The role covers backend services, APIs and mobile/web front ends, database engineering across MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle, and containerized delivery on Kubernetes, Docker and Rancher, while setting the standard for code quality and engineering practice across the team.
Key Accountabilities
- Application Design & Development:
- Build and maintain secure RESTful APIs, microservices and integrations with internal and third-party platforms.
- Lead the design and implementation of backend and full-stack solutions using Python, Node.js/JavaScript and Flutter.
- Develop responsive mobile and web front ends with Flutter, aligned to user experience and performance standards.
- Translate business and product requirements into technical designs, estimates and delivery plans.
- Database Engineering & Optimization:
- Design, develop and optimize database solutions across MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle.
- Own data modelling, query tuning, indexing and data migration for database-intensive projects to ensure integrity, performance and scalability.
- Cloud-Native Deployment & DevOps
- Drive cloud-native deployments using Kubernetes, Docker and Rancher, building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines that enable reliable, repeatable and automated releases, with monitoring, logging and alerting in place to ensure continuous availability of OPCO applications.
- Engineering Quality & Standards:
- Ensure best coding practices, peer code reviews and adherence to architectural standards.
- Produce technical documentation, design notes and runbooks for applications delivered.
- Define and enforce unit, integration and automated testing to raise code quality and reduce production defects.
- Mentor and guide engineers through pairing, reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Application Management (Operations & Delivery)
- Develop, enhance and support OPCO applications across the organization such as:
- Data and reporting services on MongoDB, Postgres and Oracle
- Internal business and operations applications
- API, integration and middleware services
- OPCO customer-facing web and mobile applications
- Other Apps in related domain/vertical.
- Microservices hosted on Kubernetes/Rancher platforms
- Governance, Security & Release Management:
- Track technical debt and continuously improve application performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot performance and production issues, perform root cause analysis and provide innovative, lasting fixes.
- Follow change and release management processes for deployments to production platforms.
- Apply secure coding practices (e.g. OWASP) and ensure adherence to telecom, security, data privacy and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Educational Qualifications:
- Certifications (Advantage): - CKA/CKAD, Cloud Developer (AWS/Azure/GCP), MongoDB or Oracle certifications.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant Experience & Functional / Technical Skills:
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate across Product, Technical, IT Operations, Security,and other Engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of Linux systems and production troubleshooting.
- Proven track record working on major database-intensive projects.
- Deep expertise in Python and JavaScript (Node.js); hands-on experience building mobile applications with Flutter.
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL and RDBMS databases: MongoDB, Postgres, Oracle
- Good understanding of Microservices architecture, APIs, CI/CD, Git and DevOps practices
- 8+ years’ software development experience
- Strong experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Rancher)
