Job Purpose
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting routine laboratory tests on raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, water, and environmental samples to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine microbiological, chemical, and physical tests on raw materials, products, water, and environmental samples.
- Collect, label, prepare, and analyse samples according to approved procedures.
- Monitor product quality at different stages of the production process.
- Record and maintain accurate laboratory test results and documentation.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and fit for use.
- Identify and report out-of-specification results and support investigations into quality deviations.
- Maintain proper laboratory hygiene, safety, and good laboratory practices.
- Ensure reagents, chemicals, and laboratory materials are properly stored and monitored.
- Support environmental monitoring and hygiene verification programmes.
- Assist with internal and external quality audits and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with relevant food safety, quality, and HSE requirements.
- Prepare routine laboratory reports and communicate test results to the Quality/Production team.
Requirements
B.Sc./HND in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science & Technology, Chemistry, or a related field.
3 years’ laboratory experience, preferably in a food processing or manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of food microbiology, laboratory testing, sampling, and quality control procedures.
Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards.
Good documentation, analytical, and reporting skills.
Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
