We are seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Junior In-House Lawyer to serve as a Legal Officer. Functioning as an integral part of our operational engine, this role is designed for a qualified legal practitioner looking to build a strong in-house corporate career.
This role requires practical judgment, fast legal execution, precision in drafting, and high discretion when handling sensitive corporate information.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Management & Drafting: Draft, review, and negotiate standard commercial agreements, vendor contracts etc.
- Regulatory Compliance & Filings: Monitor regulatory changes, track statutory deadlines, maintain corporate registers, and ensure strict compliance with local laws and statutory bodies.
- Document Control & Administrative Support: Organize legal files, track contract renewal cycles, perform legal research, and prepare practical legal memos for management.
- Internal Business Advisory: Provide daily legal support to operational departments (HR, Sales, Operations) to identify and mitigate routine legal risks.
- Miscellaneous & Executive Operational Support: Perform administrative duties, facilitate corporate correspondence, coordinate logistics for executive assignments, and execute ad-hoc operational tasks as directed by management.
- Dispute & External Counsel Support: Assist in gathering evidence, compiling documentation for active legal matters, and liaising with external solicitors when needed.
- Employment & Labor Compliance: Review employment terms, advise on statutory labor standards under Nigerian Labor Law, and support the legal aspects of workplace dispute resolution and compliance.
Requirements
- Operational Fit: Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage competing deadlines, adapt to general administrative tasks, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Qualifications: LL.B and B.L. (Must be called to the Nigerian Bar).
- Experience: 1 (One) year Post-NYSC experience in active legal practice, corporate solicitor practice, or an in-house legal role.
- Legal Skills: Sound understanding of Nigerian Commercial Law, Corporate Practice, and Labor Law, with strong drafting and analytical skills.
- Academic Record: Minimum of Second Class Upper (2:1) at both University and Law School.
- Tech Proficiency: Mastery of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and digital document/contract tracking tools.
- Preferred Attributes:
- Flexible mindset with a practical, problem-solving approach to internal legal and operational queries.
- Meticulous attention to detail in legal drafting, statutory interpretation, and administrative coordination.
- Active membership in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
