Job Summary
The Mechanical Shift Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all port equipment. The role requires strong hands-on experience in preventive maintenance, fault identification, troubleshooting, and rapid response to equipment breakdowns.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspection of plant equipment to identify faults and potential failures.
- Supervise and manage the shift technicians/operators team.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and support effective fault identification and resolution.
- Support the general shift team during major repairs and maintenance activities.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of all plant equipment.
- Issue and manage work permits for maintenance and other relevant jobs.
- Schedule maintenance activities and allocate jobs to shift technicians and operators.
- Maintain accurate maintenance history and records for all plant equipment.
Requirements
- Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in Operations & Maintenance (O&M) of Material Handling Systems.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in a port environment is preferred.
- Technical Skills & Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on expertise in mechanical activities such as:
- Welding and gas cutting
- Rigging
- Machining
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to urgent maintenance requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of utilities and associated equipment, including:
- Other relevant utility systems
- Sewage Treatment Plants (STP)
- Pumps
- Compressors
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software.
- Functional knowledge of computer operating systems and Microsoft Office applications, including email.
- Familiarity with Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems, including:
- Working at Height
- Confined Space
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Hot Work
- Strong knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Material Handling System (MHS) equipment, including:
- Diesel/gas generators
- Ship loaders
- Conveyor belts
- Belt bucket elevators
