Team Purpose
The unit provides technical leadership, clinical mentorship, supportive supervision, performance monitoring, and quality improvement while strengthening service integration, government ownership, and sustainability of HIV services.
The Clinical Services Unit ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services across CIHP-supported facilities.
Job Purpose
The incumbent will coordinate and provide technical oversight for pediatric and adolescent HIV services across Kogi State, including pediatric case finding, Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), ART initiation and optimization, Advanced HIV Disease (AHD), viral load monitoring and suppression, retention in care, and quality improvement, in accordance with national guidelines and donor requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilties
Support integration of pediatric HIV services into broader maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services.
Support timely ART initiation, appropriate pediatric dosing, regimen optimization, and management of treatment failure.
Monitor pediatric and adolescent viral load eligibility, sample collection, result documentation, suppression, and management of unsuppressed clients.
Strengthen implementation of pediatric AHD, TB/HIV, TPT, opportunistic infection, and other relevant clinical interventions.
Strengthen EID and HIV-exposed infant (HEI) follow-up, including sample collection, result return, linkage, and treatment initiation.
Strengthen pediatric HIV case finding through EID, index testing, PMTCT, TB, nutrition, inpatient, outpatient, and other high-risk entry points.
Provide technical oversight for pediatric and adolescent HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services across supported facilities.
Prepare and submit timely technical reports and track identified program gaps through resolution.
Conduct routine supportive supervision, clinical mentorship, case reviews, and capacity building for healthcare workers.
Support adolescent-focused interventions, including OTZ, adherence, disclosure, psychosocial support, retention, and transition to adult care.
Analyze pediatric program performance and support facility-specific remediation and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) interventions.
Work with SAPC, SACA, SMOH and other government structures to strengthen state ownership, skill transfer, and sustainability of pediatric HIV services.
Work with M&E, laboratory, pharmacy, community, and other technical teams to strengthen multidisciplinary pediatric HIV service delivery.
Key Performance Areas
Improved integration of pediatric HIV services within broader child-health services.
Retention in care and reduction in interruption in treatment (IIT).
Pediatric ART optimization and adherence to national treatment guidelines.
Demonstrated capacity transfer and resolution of identified facility-level performance gaps.
Quality, completeness, and timeliness of pediatric HIV program reports.
Viral load coverage and suppression among children and adolescents.
Appropriate identification and management of pediatric AHD and TB/HIV.
Pediatric HIV case-finding, linkage, and ART initiation performance.
EID coverage, result return, HEI follow-up, and timely treatment initiation.
Quality and effectiveness of facility mentorship, supportive supervision, and CQI interventions.
Qualifications and
Experience
Valid registration and practicing license with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with electronic medical records.
working with government health systems and donor-supported HIV programs will be an advantage.
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Ability to analyze routine program data and translate findings into corrective interventions.
Minimum of 3 years' relevant clinical/public health experience, preferably in HIV programming.
