The Pharmacy Unit provides medical support services in pharmacotherapy and plays a critical role in achieving EHA Clinics\' mission by ensuring the supply and appropriate use of quality medications, providing pharmaceutical care, and optimizing patients\' treatment outcomes through effective counseling and clinical interventions.
The Pharmacist will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered pharmaceutical services while ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Pharmacy & Clinical Care
- Prepare and dispense medications based on valid physician prescriptions.
- Review prescriptions for appropriateness, legality, dosage, potential interactions, and other clinical considerations.
- Provide pharmaceutical care, including patient assessment, drug therapy monitoring, patient education, and clinical interventions.
- Develop effective medication plans to minimize the risk of adverse drug reactions and optimize treatment outcomes.
- Provide professional advice on medications, cosmetics, and para-pharmaceutical products.
- Interpret symptoms and determine when patients require immediate treatment or referral to a physician.
- Provide appropriate counseling and emotional support to patients.
- Participate in community health activities that promote, maintain, and restore health and prevent disease.
- Pharmacy Operations & Inventory
- Maintain an efficient pharmacy environment that facilitates the identification and dispensing of medications.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of the clinic\'s drug formulary.
- Ensure accurate records of medications, dosages, prices, and inventory levels on the automated inventory system.
- Maintain control over the receiving, stocking, labeling, storage, and dispensing of medicines and other pharmacy products.
- Review and respond appropriately to operational and clinical situations encountered daily.
- Contribute to the review and development of pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Patient Education & Safety
- Document patient and family education and implement appropriate patient education plans.
- Protect patients, staff, and technicians by adhering to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Maintain high standards of ethical practice and comply with the EHA Clinics Code of Conduct.
- Manage clinical risks and identify opportunities to improve patient safety and quality of care.
- Professional Development
- Maintain current pharmacological and clinical knowledge through continuing education, workshops, professional publications, and relevant professional networks.
- Keep up to date with medical research, technology, and evidence-based pharmacy practice.
- Research unusual symptoms and treatment options in consultation with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Requirements
Education & Professional Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Pharmacy, M.Pharm, or PharmD.
Minimum of
two (2) years post-NYSC progressive experience
in pharmacy within the private or public sector.
Experience working in public health and health systems is an advantage.
Must be a registered member of the
Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN)
.
Must have an up-to-date practicing license.
