Role Summary

The successful candidate must be capable of working independently, strengthening financial discipline and developing scalable processes to support business growth.

This is a hands-on role that combines day-to-day financial management with business partnering and finance leadership.

The individual will ensure that the financial performance of the business is accurately tracked and reported.

The Senior Finance Officer will take ownership of financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, revenue and collections reconciliation, statutory compliance, financial controls and business performance analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finance Leadership and Business Support:
  • Support strategic planning, investor due diligence, fundraising and other corporate finance initiatives.
  • Translate business objectives into budgets, financial plans and measurable financial targets.
  • Coordinate the activities of junior finance employees and external financial advisers where applicable
  • Participate in management and business performance meetings.
  • Advise management on cash flow, profitability, cost management, investments and financial risks.
  • Provide management with timely financial information, analysis and recommendations.
  • Develop the structure, policies and processes required for a scalable Finance function.
  • Lead and coordinate the Finance function.
  • Financial Reporting and Management Accounts:
  • Prepare financial performance dashboards and management reports.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in the appropriate ledgers
  • Analyze revenue, expenditure, margins and profitability.
  • Ensure the integrity, completeness and accuracy of all financial records.
  • Produce income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct budget-versus-actual analysis and investigate significant variances.
  • Maintain the general ledger and all supporting accounting schedules.
  • Revenue, Collections and Receivables Management:
  • Reconcile collections received through bank accounts, payment platforms and other collection channels.
  • Escalate significant collection shortfalls, overdue balances and portfolio risks to management.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables, repayment performance, ageing balances and collection efficiency.
  • Maintain financial oversight of expected and actual collections.
  • Prepare and review daily, weekly and monthly collection reports.
  • Provide financial analysis to support improvements in collections and recovery performance.
  • Ensure that revenue recorded is complete, accurate and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Work with the Collections, Operations and Portfolio teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Develop and enforce controls for revenue recognition, receivables management and debt recovery.
  • Treasury, Cash Flow and Working Capital:
  • Take ownership of cash flow planning and liquidity management.
  • Maintain relationships with banks, payment providers and other financial institutions.
  • Recommend payment priorities based on available cash, contractual obligations and business needs.
  • Prepare and regularly update short- and medium-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor daily bank balances, expected inflows and upcoming financial obligations.
  • Develop initiatives to improve working capital and shorten the cash conversion cycle.
  • Ensure approved payments are accurately processed and appropriately documented.
  • Perform timely bank reconciliations and resolve all reconciling items.
  • Monitor restricted funds, operational accounts and other designated financial resources.
  • Identify potential cash flow gaps and recommend appropriate mitigating actions.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Planning:
  • Prepare periodic financial forecasts based on current operational and financial performance.
  • Monitor departmental expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Identify cost-optimization opportunities without compromising operational effectiveness.
  • Conduct profitability, scenario, sensitivity and cost-benefit analyses.
  • Track performance against approved financial targets and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support long-term financial planning and resource-allocation decisions.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process
  • Coordinate budget inputs from departmental and business unit heads.
  • Review financial assumptions and ensure budgets align with business priorities.
  • Develop financial models for new products, partnerships, projects and expansion opportunities.
  • Accounts Payable and Expense Management:
  • Review invoices, payment requests and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve outstanding differences.
  • Prevent duplicate payments, unsupported expenditure and unauthorized transactions.
  • Maintain accurate vendor and supplier records.
  • Ensure payments are properly approved and within established authorization limits.
  • Ensure expenditure is correctly classified and allocated to the appropriate business, department or cost center.
  • Monitor staff advances, operational expenses and other accountable funds.
  • Monitor outstanding liabilities and ensure they are accurately reported.
  • Ensure timely retirement and reconciliation of all advances.
  • Financial Controls and Risk Management:
  • Identify financial-control weaknesses, revenue leakage, fraud risks and process gaps.
  • Maintain accurate fixed-asset, vendor, receivable, payable and staff-advance records.
  • Work with Risk and Internal Audit teams to resolve control issues and implement recommendations.
  • Promote financial discipline and accountability across the organization.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness and compliance with company policies.
  • Protect the financial assets, records and confidential information of both businesses.
  • Recommend and implement corrective measures for identified financial risks.
  • Establish appropriate approval limits, documentation standards and segregation of duties.
  • Design, implement and continuously improve financial policies and internal controls.
  • Taxation and Statutory Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate schedules and supporting documentation for all statutory remittances.
  • Liaise with tax authorities, pension administrators, auditors and other regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation and remittance of PAYE, VAT, withholding tax, pensions and other statutory obligations.
  • Address outstanding compliance matters and ensure timely resolution.
  • Monitor changes in financial and tax regulations and advise management on their implications.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar covering all tax, regulatory and financial filing deadlines.
  • Audit and External Stakeholder Management:
  • Respond to audit queries and ensure the timely resolution of audit findings.
  • Prepare audit schedules and provide all required financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Work with external auditors, tax advisers, consultants and other professional service providers.
  • Support financial due diligence exercises involving investors, lenders or business partners.
  • Maintain organized records that are readily available for audit, regulatory and management review.
  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits.
  • Ensure that financial information provided to external stakeholders is accurate and properly authorized.
  • Operational and Commercial Support:
  • Ensure operational decisions are supported by accurate financial data and appropriate analysis.
  • Provide financial input into pricing, proposals, contracts and partnership negotiations.
  • Provide financial insights on transaction volumes, revenue, collections, margins and operating costs.
  • Review the financial performance of individual clients, parks, products, portfolios and operating locations.
  • Assess the financial viability of business initiatives and operational decisions.
  • Participate in monthly performance reviews and other relevant business meetings.
  • Partner with Operations, Commercial, Credit, Risk and Technology teams to improve financial performance.
  • Systems and Process Improvement:
  • Improve the speed, quality and reliability of financial reporting.
  • Ensure finance systems and records remain accurate, secure and scalable.
  • Identify opportunities to automate financial reporting, collections reconciliation and payment processes.
  • Establish consistent reporting templates and reconciliation processes across both businesses.
  • Continuously review existing processes and recommend improvements.
  • Support the selection and implementation of appropriate accounting and financial-management systems.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for key finance activities.
  • Team Coordination and Development:
  • Provide coaching and technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Support the future growth and development of the Finance team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four years of relevant finance or accounting experience, preferably at a mid-to-senior level.
  • Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA is preferred.

Experience

working independently and providing financial guidance to business leaders.

Strong knowledge of Nigerian taxation, statutory compliance and applicable financial regulations.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
