The incumbent ensures that all structural designs comply with safety standards, building codes, and engineering best practices, while working closely with site teams and the General Manager (Technical) to guarantee structural integrity and flawless project execution.
The Structural Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and reviewing structural components for ongoing and upcoming construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the Engineering Department, project managers, and site supervisors during daily toolbox meetings and operational planning.
- Ensure designs and site activities comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Enforce strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols across all structural engineering and construction phases.
- Provide technical inputs and reports to the General Manager (Technical) as required.
- Review architectural plans and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure structural feasibility and alignment with project specifications.
- Assess construction materials (concrete, steel, reinforcement bars, etc.) for quality compliance and adherence to statutory standards.
- Conduct routine site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure works strictly conform to approved structural designs and engineering codes.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of structural calculations, design modifications, site inspection logs, and progress reports.
- Identify potential structural defects or site discrepancies early and provide prompt, practical engineering solutions.
- Utilize industry-standard engineering software to model, simulate, and analyze structural loads, stress tolerances, and material behaviors.
- Prepare detailed structural designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for building foundations, frames, and civil infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.Sc./B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. Professional registration (e.g., COREN) is mandatory.
- Proficiency in structural design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Staad Pro, ETABS, or equivalent).
- Strong problem-solving abilities, close attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian building codes and international engineering standards.
- 10 years of active structural engineering
