Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising shift operations, ensuring water quality meets required standards, monitoring plant equipment and processes, and coordinating shift personnel and maintenance activities.
We are seeking an experienced and technically competent WTP Shift In-Charge to oversee the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure treated water meets approved quality, safety, and operational standards.
- Prepare comprehensive shift handover reports and communicate outstanding issues to the incoming shift.
- Conduct regular inspections of pumps, valves, tanks, filters, dosing systems, pipelines, and other WTP equipment.
- Participate in plant optimization, troubleshooting, inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities to improve plant reliability and availability.
- Supervise WTP operators and ensure proper allocation of shift duties.
- Ensure accurate recording of operational data, readings, chemical usage, equipment status, and shift activities.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure the WTP remains clean, organized, and safe.
- Respond promptly to plant emergencies, breakdowns, process upsets, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Identify operational abnormalities, equipment failures, and process deviations and take appropriate corrective action.
- Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Water Treatment Plant during assigned shifts.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Enforce all plant safety, environmental, quality, and operational procedures.
- Monitor and control water treatment processes, including raw water intake, clarification, filtration, chemical dosing, disinfection, and treated-water distribution.
- Monitor plant parameters, equipment performance, flow rates, pressures, chemical consumption, and water quality indicators.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and dosing of water treatment chemicals in accordance with safety procedures.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance, Laboratory/Quality, Utilities, and other relevant teams to resolve operational issues.
Requirements
- & Qualifications
- Proven
Experience
supervising or leading WTP operations on a shift basis.
Strong communication, reporting, leadership, and team-management skills.
Bachelor's Degree, HND, or OND in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and operate rotating shifts.
Good understanding of water treatment processes and plant equipment.
Relevant technical qualifications or professional certifications will be an added advantage.
Good knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Practical knowledge of chemical dosing, filtration, clarification, disinfection, and water quality monitoring.
4–6 years of relevant
in water treatment plant operations, utilities, process plants, or a similar industrial environment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret operational readings, process parameters, and equipment performance indicators.
